Introduction: Azukal soda, inspired by the rich Mayan culture, emerged as a unique class project with a commitment to authenticity and health. This soda, crafted from fresh fruit and sugar cane without any artificial additives, pays homage to the Mayan heritage. The brand name itself is derived from K'iche, one of the Mayan dialects, and aims to resonate with individuals seeking a healthier soda alternative that celebrates indigenous culture. For me, personally, this project was particularly exciting as it allowed me to connect with my Guatemalan Mayan roots.
Client Information: Azukal soda represents a passionate vision of preserving the Mayan culture while offering a wholesome beverage choice. The goal was to connect with individuals who are not only health-conscious but also appreciate the significance of indigenous traditions in modern products. My personal connection to the Guatemalan Mayan culture added a deeply personal dimension to this project.
Project Overview: As part of a class project, my task involved creating a visual identity and packaging design for Azukal soda. This included defining the brand's look and feel, crafting a unique brand logo, and designing packaging that reflected the brand's values and celebrated the Mayan culture. The project aimed to create a compelling brand presence and allowed me to reconnect with my cultural heritage through my design work.
Design Process:
Logo Creation: The heart of the project was crafting a distinct brand logo that honored the Mayan heritage. The logo design drew inspiration from Mayan symbols and aesthetics, blending them with modern design sensibilities to create a visually appealing and culturally resonant mark.
Packaging Design: Developing the packaging was a meticulous process. It involved choosing vibrant colors that reflected the fresh fruit ingredients and Mayan influence. The packaging design aimed to convey the brand's commitment to health and culture while standing out on store shelves.
Flavor Representation: To differentiate between flavors – Mangosteen, Orange Lime, and Mango Pineapple – each label design was tailored to evoke the essence of the respective fruit, creating a harmonious yet distinct packaging lineup.
Challenges and Solutions: A significant challenge was encapsulating the Mayan culture while ensuring that the brand remained appealing to a contemporary and health-conscious audience. The solution lay in creating a visual identity and packaging that seamlessly blended tradition with modernity and healthfulness.
Results: The Azukal soda brand and packaging design successfully merged the flavors of authenticity, health consciousness, and cultural celebration. While the soda's launch might be uncertain, the project stands as a testament to the potential of infusing indigenous culture into modern products while prioritizing health.
Conclusion: The Azukal soda brand and packaging design project was an enriching journey into the realms of culture, health, and design. It serves as a reminder that creative endeavors can inspire meaningful connections and celebrate the richness of heritage.
